Rick Allen: White Pine

White Pine

The White Pine (Pinus strobus) has a range extending from Maine to Minnesota along the Canadian border. Standing up to ten stories high, some white pines are know to have reached 450 years in age. Nearly logged off in the 19th Century and decimated by disease in the 20th, the remaining stands of pine usually tower above the surrounding forest canopy and remain emblematic of the great boreal forests of the Great Lakes.
