Apsley Cherry-Garrard went with Scott to the Antarctic in 1911-1912 (and unlike Scott came back, too) and subsequently wrote The Worst Journey In The World, a classic in the Disastrous Adventure genre of literature. As miserable an experience as it was for him, Cherry recognized that the emperor penguin had it even worse.
