Fermentation & Civilisation
The foundation of Civilisation is basic: fermentation. A 14th century statute in Augsburg, Germany, established qualitative standards for local brews, stating that “the selling of bad beer is a crime against Christian love.”
In Daniel Greysolon Sieur du Lhut’s namesake town we still subscribe to that particular theological tenet; Paul Bunyan says amen.
This image was created for the 2012 All Pints North Brewfest, and features our take on the (locally) famous statue of Sieur du Luth by Jacques Lipchitz that stands on the campus of the University Of Minnesota Duluth campus; we swear he’s holding a hot dog.
